How do I choose the right resin flooring for my sector?
Is resin flooring legally required in the food industry?
There is no specific regulatory requirement on the material itself, but Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 (HACCP) requires that floors in food establishments be resistant, non-absorbent, washable and non-toxic. Polyurethane cement and epoxy resin systems are the most widely adopted solutions because they meet all these requirements simultaneously thanks to their continuous, seamless surface.
How long does it take to install resin flooring?
Timing varies depending on the system and the surface area. A 1,000 m² area can typically be completed in 2–4 working days. The surface is generally walkable after 12–24 hours and fully cured within 5–7 days. Prima Pavimenti schedules work during production downtime (nights, weekends, holiday periods) to minimize impact on facility operations.
Can resin flooring be applied over existing flooring?
In most cases, yes. Resin systems can be applied over existing concrete, sound tile flooring and old resin coatings after proper substrate preparation (shot blasting, moisture testing, crack filling). This eliminates the cost and time of full demolition, significantly reducing production downtime.
How do I know which resin system is right for my sector?
The right system depends on four variables: the intended use of the space, the expected mechanical and chemical stresses, the condition of the substrate, and the sector’s specific regulatory requirements. There is no universal solution: a cheese dairy and a data center have completely different needs even at equal surface area.
