For over 100 years, one of Europe’s most important wine distilleries, with several sites in Italy, entrusted us with renovating one of its sites’ floors.
Distilleries require specific flooring to meet the hygienic standards required for production areas. However, it is always necessary to consider the condition of the existing flooring to ensure that the new resin solution is suitable for the production activities carried out in the rooms containing the copper stills, vats, distillation and fermentation vessels, pipes and various distillery equipment.
These areas have floors that are subject to heavy machinery loads, heavy foot traffic, deep cleaning, impact, etc., as well as hot and corrosive by-product spills.
The resin flooring chosen must be hygienic, durable and resistant to heat and chemicals due to the distillation processes. In order to prevent contamination and the possible growth of micro-organisms, it must comply with HACCP standards. As a continuous surface, resin flooring meets the most stringent hygiene standards. Being monolithic, water or other liquids cannot penetrate between the substrate and the floor surface.

In terms of safety, in these damp and potentially slippery environments where operators will be present, it is essential to use floor coverings with a high degree of slip resistance.
Preparation of the subfloor to create a suitable surface for grip and consolidation was a key part of the flooring renovation at this distillery.
We then applied a 6 mm thick polyurethane cement solution with a high level of performance that meets all the requirements of the production environment of distilleries and the food industry in general, with high resistance to thermal shock (100% resistance up to +80°C). Resistant to stress and disinfectants.
Polyurethane cement flooring can also be used in conjunction with drainage systems or on slopes to help drain liquids or washings off the surface.
